Euromec Is Praised For Support Of Dakar
The 2005 Dakar Rally is over for another year, and Euromec, sponsors of female entrant, Patsy Quick, is proud of her efforts in the race. Patsy, the only British woman to have attempted the race on a motorbike, battled on until the tenth day, sporting the Euromec logo on her gear.
The sponsorship deal, which began in August 2004, included a number of photo shoots and regular contact with Patsy and her convoy, Team Desert Rose. Managing Director of Euromec, Peter Crewe, and representatives from the Leicestershire company, were there to support Patsy in her attempt to finish the race, which set off from Barcelona on 1st January.
The Dakar is the toughest endurance race there is, and Patsy was tested physically and emotionally. She had trained hard for many months in preparation, and started off well, but luck was not on her side. When her bike refused to start, she was out of the event, but at least she is still here to tell the tale ? the race claimed the lives of two other participants.
Following her attempt, Patsy commented, "The Dakar is the Everest of motorcycling sport, and despite my tales of injury and woe, I hope that in some strange way I have inspired others to have a go at the maddest race on the planet. My team and I thank Euromec for all their generous help."
