The Sky's The Limit For Euromec!

Airports are a hive of activity, thousands of passengers coming and going at all times of the day. Inevitably all this human activity leaves evidence in the shape of litter, fast food packaging, dust and debris.

One of the North's busiest airports is Newcastle. Earlier this year the operations staff needed advice on an effective cleaning solution for the airport's terminals and surrounding areas. They turned to Euromec - the UK's foremost supplier of industrial and municipal cleaning equipment.

After listening to the brief, Euromec advised that the airport would benefit from having a Powerflex - a multipurpose machine that would not only be able to keep the airport clean but also carry out other essential tasks.

The Powerflex2100 is a common chassis with a range of interchangeable attachments that enable it to complete a multitude of tasks. Apart from the sweeping attachments, there are attachments for winter maintenance, such as snowploughs and blowers, and attachments for grounds maintenance such as mowers and rakes.

Newcastle Airport went for a sweeping attachment and a liquid spreader. The vacuum sweeper attachment collects everything in its path, from cigarette butts to fast food containers, and keeps the airport grounds spotlessly clean.

The spreader is used in the winter months to spray paths, walkways and runways with a liquid de-icer - which is not harmful to aircraft. This melts any ice and prevents the surfaces from becoming slippery - particularly important when the health and safety of thousands of people is concerned.

Commenting on the Powerflex's cleaning ability, Peter Rea, Operations & Safety Manager at Newcastle Airport stated, "This one man operated vehicle is very manoeuvrable and has enabled us to clean areas that previously had to be cleaned manually. It has proved to be a great tool in tackling the FOD (Foreign Object Debris) problems typically found in an airport environment."
