Effective 1st January 2019 Nilfisk will no longer produce, sell or service its “Outdoor” machines. In the UK Euromec will take over, and will offer the “Park Ranger” and “City Ranger” products alongside its existing Powerflex line. In addition Euromec will support users of the Nilfisk products with service, and spares.
Peter Crewe, Euromec Managing Director: “We have experience with these products having produced, sold and serviced them for over fifteen years. We introduced articulated, multi-purpose maintenance machines to the UK market, so Park Ranger and City Ranger owners can be confident that their investment is safe: Their machines will be serviced and supported and the handover will be seamless.”
Extra staff have been taken on in sales, engineering and service by the Market Harborough based company to support this expansion. From 1st January 2019 sales of machines and spares start, service handover will be completed early February.
Peter elaborates further: “Euromec is taking over warranty support for all machines sold by Nilfisk before the end of last year. We are contacting users now. We have an existing stock of spares parts plus service schedules and trained personnel because we sell similar machines. If any user has any concern just contact us.”
Adding these machines means Euromec now have 3 different models in their Powerflex range. All 3 are multi-purpose, having a large selection of sweeping, winter maintenance and grass cutting attachments. Based around rugged 4-wheel-drive, articulated chassis, they offer different levels of performance to suit the application and a price range to suit every budget.
The chewing gum market has been steadily increasing in recent years. Many consumers dispose of their gum responsibly; however it is still being dropped onto pavements by many. It is the second most common litter after cigarette butts. Defra reports that gum contributes to pavement staining more than any other litter. Unfortunately this mainly occurs around schools, cinemas and fast food outlets frequented by the young.
Isn’t There a Better Way?
Cleaning chewing gum residue from pavements is time consuming and uses a combination of aggressive techniques. These require areas to be cordoned off, large quantities of water and sometimes additional chemicals. Add to this inconvenience, disruption and wear to the pavement fabric and you will understand why we often get asked: “Isn’t there a better way?”
Now There Is
Well now there is. After many months of co-operation and development with specialist gum removal company CGRS, trials of a new technique using one of our pavement cleaning machines have proven spectacularly successful.
99% of Chewing Gum Residue Removed In One Pass
As the accompanying pictures show the result is remarkable, 99% of gum residue is removed in one pass with the pavement being deep cleaned at the same time. This is achieved without using any chemicals and the waste water and gum residue is collected by the machine. Result: Clean, bacteria free pavements which are immediately usable by the public.
For local and city councils this represents a significant breakthrough. Our machine removes gum four to six times quicker than a man with a high pressure lance, and it also deep cleans the pavement in that time. One pass over a width of 1.2metres at a speed of 1mph removes 99% of gum residue and leaves the pavement clean and dry. No high pressure jetting means pavement damage from dislodged sand and grout is non-existent. And all this is done unbeknown to pedestrians who just carry on life as normal.
So, after many years of trying we can now say: “Yes there is a better way; we have a solution to the sticky problem of the chewing gum blight on our pavements.”
We designed, developed and now manufacture a unique washing and scrubbing head for use on compact road and pavement sweepers.
The head was originally conceived around ten years ago. Around this time Councils and cleaning contractors became increasingly concerned about the heavily contaminated water produced during street cleaning going straight into the drains. We knew from our experience providing industrial scrubber driers that using similar technology for street and pavement cleaning would solve this problem.
Our scrubber head is the result and now sells all over the world. Not only do we sell it fitted to our compact road scrubber drier, but it is also sold to other companies selling similar machines. As you can see in the video below it does a great job that no other machine can match.
The story here is simple. At the 2016 Canadian GP meeting a competing car had its gearbox break and deposit all its oil in the pit lane. This was obviously unacceptable so a local cleaning contractor used a machine fitted with one of our head and squeegee kits, built in Market Harborough, to wash the pit lane and collect the waste water and oil. Note the clean line across the white road sector, it’s even cleaner than the surrounding pavement.
British ingenuity and engineering skill at work, brilliant.
Delivered today to the Bushey Jewish Cemetery, having been specially modified for their application, is this customised Kubota RTV500. A large water bowser is hooked-up to a front mounted, handheld jet washer with a heavy duty hose. Providing the water pressure is an auxiliary Honda motor connected to a pump, all mounted at the rear on a custom load-bed. Having been thoroughly tested and trialled by the client this is the first of many machines that will be provided over the next months.

One of the successes of this year has been our Powerflex Road Scrubber drier. Designed and built by us in Market Harborough it is being used throughout the world to tackle cleaning tasks that traditional road and street sweepers simply cannot touch.
Being a scrubber dryer our machine applies water to the surface being cleaned and scrubs it using that water. This loosens the dirt and lifts any stains. The dirty water and the grime is then sucked up by the full width squeegee at the machine’s rear. The result is a really clean and dry roadway or pavement with no tyre marks and all the dirt and grime collected ready for proper disposal. It has to be seen to be believed.
Performance and Reputation
Such is the performance and reputation of our Powerflex Road Scrubber Drier that we have sold them throughout Europe; 6 each to Germany and Poland for example and ten to Turkish users! In addition we have sold them is Asia; Singapore, and even the South Pacific island of Fiji! In all we have exported nearly 50 units in the last twelve months due to this machines unique abilities.

With the nuisance of litter becoming greater by the day, local and City councils are coming under increasing pressure from angry residents to provide a solution: So, the launch of our new Hurricane litter vacuum could be perfect timing. Available from beginning of April, this cost effective, easy to use and cheap to run machine will collect litter, dropped fast food wrappers and bottles easily and quickly. Hurricane has been added to our wide range of municipal cleaning machines.
The Hurricane leaf and litter sweeper range solves the problem of collecting litter and leaves in public and private areas. Four models are in the range; an entry level push along model, powered driven and low-noise, driven walk-behind sweepers and the truck loader.
High Performance – Low Noise
Powered by Honda engines the Hurricane is a vacuum collector for use on lawns, pavements and in outdoor areas. An advanced fan and turbine system shifts over 2500 cubic metres of air per hour producing a vacuum powerful enough to collect the most compacted, wet litter and leaves and of course discarded cans and bottles.
Collect Litter Around Schools and Hospitals
Despite the power of the vacuum the Hurricane is quieter than competitive machines due to its low-noise design. For areas such as schools and hospitals a noise sensitive model that sounds 50% quieter is available.
The floods in the Wales and the South of England are appalling. Our thoughts are with the individuals and businesses that are suffering at the hands of this exceptional weather. While the rain continues to fall and the water levels continue to rise, flood defence is the focus.
Once the waters have subsided the big clear-up will start. People will want to get back to some form of normality as quickly as possible. We hope that’s where we will be able to help. In our range of machines there are a number that are ideally suited to clearing roads and cleaning floors.
Floor scrubbers are fantastic at clearing liquid spills and leave the floor spotlessly clean, having collected the waste water. Their road going counterparts are equally effective. If you have a factory that has had its floor flooded a scrubber drier will collect water from all the low spots in the floor and remove the detritus left by the flood water. Not a pleasant thought but an effective solution to the problem.
Good luck to all those affected. Let us know if we can help.
Recently we were doing some publicity shots for the Kubota RTV range we sell and this was one of the shots we got.
No It Didn’t
Despite what it looks like the RTV just carried on regardless of the deeper than anticipated rut. At the time it didn’t seem that dramatic but as the picture shows the water nearly covered the rear wheel and the RTV was pitched at a remarkable lean angle. Nicky, the driver seems quite calm too so all in a day’s work then! What a brilliant illustration of the capability of these machines.
The range of Kubota RTVs has been expanded so we are selling even more of these tough, versatile machines. If you want to know more then visit our website. We are presently adding some videos shot during the day so look out for more hills, ruts and muddy action, coming soon to a computer screen near you.
Gone are the days when a lorry mounted sweeper trundling along our roads fulfilled a council’s street cleaning obligations. With the advent of retail parks, large pedestrian areas and fast food retailing, cleaning activity had to become more effective and pedestrian friendly.
New Breed of Street Cleaners
The first and most noticeable change was the size of the machines. Truck mounted sweepers were fine on the open road but way too big and ungainly for a shopping centre. This brought about the compact street sweeper, a purpose built road sweeper that was smaller, lighter and much more pedestrian friendly. Typically these machines are the size of a small town car and have large front mounted glass cabs giving the operator excellent vision when working in crowded pedestrian areas. Compact they might be but quiet and efficient diesel motors make them perform at a level way above anything previously available.
Pedestrian Area and Pavement Cleaning
With more pedestrian areas to keep clean councils turned to these compact road sweepers as a solution. Being sweepers they are great for collecting dust, waste paper, litter and fast food containers. However, the fast food industry presented an additional problem; pavement staining. Drop your cup of coffee on a York stone pavement and you leave a stain. Spill your chips on the pavement, they get walked on, the grease and the ketchup get absorbed; more staining. Imagine this 24/7 in all our major cities and you see the issue.
Scrubbers to the Rescue
Technology that has been in use in industrial scrubber driers came to the rescue. We took the wet wash and scrubbing head from a large industrial scrubber drier and combined it with a compact road sweeper chassis. Add an over-size squeegee and voila you have a brilliant pavement and road cleaner. Obviously other essential changes were made, not least of all the addition of twin water tanks but the end result works, and works brilliantly. Take a look at the before and after pictures of a York stone pavement cleaned with plain water.
In addition to producing a stunning end result it was pointed out to us that as our Powerflex street scrubber drier collects the waste water it solves another problem: Washing streets with high pressure hoses is done with limited success – the real downside of this approach is that all the dirt and grease is washed into the drains – not popular with the water boards. The Street scrubber drier collects its own waste water, and the grease and filth – result.
