A Weekend at Burghley

With more than 173,000 visitors, over 600 exhibitors and around 80 of the world’s top competitors, Defender Burghley Horse Trials is a huge event. The 2026 competition was held from September 3rd to 6th, with the first horse inspection on September 2nd, bringing world-class eventing back to Burghley House grounds.

The Euromec team attended as a machinery exhibitor, giving us a chance to experience the event from the ground up. From setting up before the crowds arrived to watching the competition unfold, it was a busy few days and a great opportunity to see Burghley at its best. 

We also showcased our machinery, met people working across the sport and leisure sector and saw first-hand the scale of the grounds and the demands placed on them during a major event.

Behind the Scenes at Burghley

Before the horses entered the arena, plenty was happening across the site for Euromec at the Burghley Horse Trials 2026. Our social channels captured some of these early moments, including the team arriving and getting set up ahead of the event.

We put up machinery displays for visitors and the stand gave us a great opportunity to talk to relevant people about the demands large outdoor venues face and the equipment needed to keep them running smoothly.

Highlights from Burghley Horse Trials 2026

One of the biggest highlights of Burghley Horse Trials was Saturday’s cross-country phase. 

Riders took on the cross-country course through the Burghley grounds, while the wider estate was busy with spectators following the action. The course is prepared year-round, with an underground irrigation system helping maintain suitable ground conditions for the horses.

For the Euromec team, seeing the grounds in action offered a different perspective on the event. Our team showcased the range of professional cleaning and groundcare equipment and spoke with visitors about the challenges of maintaining busy commercial and leisure spaces.

A Look at the 2026 Competition

The Defender Burghley Horse Trials 2026 followed the traditional three phases of dressage, cross-country and show jumping, with the final results decided on Sunday.

Gemma Stevens and Chilli Knight took the Burghley 2026 title after a clear showjumping round left them on their dressage score. Katie Magee and Treworra finished second, while Caroline Pamukcu and HSH Blake took third. 

The Takeaway from Burghley 2026

Away from the competition, plenty was happening across the estate, from shopping and food outlets to several activities around the trade stands.

For Euromec at Burghley Horse Trials 2026, one of the most interesting aspects was seeing how many different functions come together within a single sport and leisure venue. Competition areas, visitor spaces, hospitality areas and outdoor grounds all need to work together throughout a major event, often while the site remains open to the public.
